The Ottawa Judo Club runs FUNdamental classes three times a week. The FUNdamental program is under the direction of Sensei Steve Horvath and Elena Vinogradov.
Sensei Steve has been awarded on multiple occasions from Judo Ontario for his Outstanding Contribution as a Volunteer and is still an active member of the tournament management team both Provincially and Nationally.
Elena Vinogradov started judo in USSR in 1983. Elena returned to Judo as a member of the Ottawa Judo Club in 2001. Elena has been teaching FUNdamental Classes since 2012, Children/Youth/Adult Classes since 2014.
Sensei Elena & Steve have a great way with kids. The Children feel safe and love how they incorporate games in the the classes and make Judo fun.

Eligibility – You must be 5 – 12 years of age and a beginner or orange belt.
FUNdamental Classes – Classes are Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm and Saturdays from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm.
The classes covers two categories in the Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD) as follows:
Active Start – Focuses on physical activity in unstructured and semi-structured A – Focuses on the ABC’s of athleticism in a fun, participatory environment. Basic movement skills and general development leading to physical literacy.
ABC’s – Our goal is to develop a life-long learning approach to Judo by providing a fun but challenging environment and teaching the fundamentals of Judo while getting fit. Our main objective is to develop life skills incorporating the philosophy of Judo by developing the following:
- Respect to Others
