The Ottawa Judo Club now has a pre-competitive program that is targeted for judoka’s yellow belt to orange belt who are showing interest in Competitive Judo. This program will increase their fitness level and prepare them for competition. This group competes in many regional and provincial competitions.
The Pre-Competitive Program is under the direction Sensei Vu Kieu who has many years of competitive experience and was a multiple Provincial and National Champion in Vietnam.

Eligibility – Must be 8-12 years of age, Yellow to Green Belt.
Pre-Competitive Classes – The Ottawa Judo Club holds classes 4 times per weeks on Monday and Thursdays from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm, Wednesdays from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm and on Saturdays from 10:30 pm to 12: 00 noon.
The Pre-Competitive program covers the following categories in the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model:
LEARNING TO TRAIN -Begins integration of physical, emotional, cognitive and affective development; emphasis on skill development. For the purposes of Judo we have found it necessary to sub-divide this category into two stages, based on age.
TRAINING TO TRAIN – Consists of sport-specific skill development with emphasis on aerobic and strength development according to Peak Height Velocity indicators.
Our goal is to develop a life-long learning approach to Judo by providing a fun but challenging environment and teaching the fundamentals of Judo while getting fit. Our main objective is to develop life skills incorporating the philosophy of Judo by developing the following:
