Sensei Brian Kalsen
How Long in Judo: 37 years
Teaching Experience:
- Sensei Brian founded the Ottawa Judo Club in 1986.
- Has been the OJC Chief Instructor and Technical Director for 22 years.

- Government of Canada Award for Outstanding service contribution as a volunteer with Judo Canada in 2005
- Awarded the Syl Apps Special Achievement Award by the Minister of Health Promotion for
distinguished contribution in the field of Amateur Sport
- Award Recipient of the Joseph Lestrange Award given for Outstanding Contribution to Judo
in Ontario in 2005 and 2007
- Vice President of Judo Ontario September 2008 to present.
- Quest for Gold Chairman for Judo Ontario 2006 to present. Awards athletes financial
assistance to enhance their training development.

Sensei Howard DuBois
How Long in Judo: 14 years
Teaching Experience:
- After 15 years in Aikido, Sensei Howard started with the Ottawa Judo Club in 1994.
- He has been the OJC gokyo and kata instructor for 6 years.
Favourite Technique: Any sutemi.
Notable Achievements:
- Member of Team Ontario at the Senior Canadian Judo Kata Championships in the Nage No Kata division 2006.
- Board of Directors - Judo Ontario East Region since 1999.
- National Coaching Certified Level 2.

Sensei Shu-Tai Cheng
How Long in Judo: 15 years
Teaching Experience:
- Taught Judo in Montreal and Mississauga from 1982 to 1988.
- Started teaching Judo at the R.A. Centre in 2004 until present and the Lycée Claudel
Judo Program from 2004 to present.
- Shu-Tai has also been teaching Judo at the OJC since 2007.
- Director of the Judo Program at the Peel Region Summer Camp 1987.
- Judo Instructor at Olympia Sports Camp 2007 and 2008. Has been running a small
local Judo Camp 2005 to present.
Favourite Techniques: Harai Goshi and Nage No Kata.
Notable Achievements:
- Member of Team Ontario at the Senior Canadian Judo Championships in the Nage No Kata division 2007.
- National Coaching Certified Level 1.
- Quest for Gold committee member 2006 to present. Awards athletes financial assistance to enhance their
training development.

Teaching Experience:
- Sensei Steve started with the Ottawa Judo Club in 1996.
- He has been the Kinder Judo instructor for 10 years.

- Recognized by Judo Ontario for Outstanding Volunteer Contribution in 2007.
- East Region Board of Directors - Treasurer 2006 to Present.
- National Coaching Certified Level 1.

How Long in Judo: 45 years on and off.
Teaching Experience:
- Judo instructor in Vietnam 1983 -1989.
- Helped out with Judo classes at the OJC since 2006.
Favourite Techniques: Hane Goshi, Ouchi Gari, Okuri Ashi Barai, Tani Otoshi.
Thoughts on Judo:
After a day's work at the office, I almost enjoy being thrown around on a Judo mat.
The OJC provides a supportive environment where one can come and practice at one's own pace,
be it working on some techniques with a kindred Judo spirit, or trying to keep up with those
hard driving competitive athletes. Either way, it is a joy to experience the beauty of Judo.

Sensei Mitch Belleau
How Long in Judo: 15 years
Teaching Experience:
- After 11 years in Aikido, Sensei Mitch started with the Ottawa Judo Club in 1996.
- Sensei Mitch was promoted to Sho-dan Black Belt in 2006.
Favourite Technique: Ouchi Gari.
Notable Achievements:
- Hatashita International Tournament Volunteer Committee 2006 and 2007.
- Gold Medalist at the Ajax Budokan Invitational Heavy Weight Masters Division 2008.
- Silver Medalist at The 2007 Canadian Masters Open Heavy Weight Division.

Sensei Robbie Kassis
How Long in Judo: 11 years
Teaching Experience:
- Sensei Robbie began teaching as a blue belt sempai during the
summer months and also as a black belt once promoted in April 2007.
Favourite Technique: Tai Otoshi
Notable Achievements:
- Member of the Junior Provincial Team and competitor at the Junior Nationals
in Edmonton, Alberta in July 2002.
- Member of the East Region Judo Team, and competitor at the Ontario Winter Games
in London Ontario 28 March 2004.
- Competed in many tournaments over my Judo career, including some competitions in the United States.
Thoughts on Judo: Judo is a sport that demands a physical and mental committment, but also
strengthens these two attributes within a person in a respectable fashion.
